Meet the WorkSafely team
Heather Angus-Lee, Editor
Heather has long been known as a news-breaker in the world of business and trade journalism, including stints as the editor-in-chief of a national magazine about manufacturing automation, the business editor of a big-city daily newspaper, and, currently, the editor of several successful B2B sites for Geosign Publishing [PDF]. But she’s got quite a different reputation at home; she’s known by her kids as “Safety Freak” for her obsession with health and safety - a trait that serves her well as Editor of WorkSafely.
Contact Heather with story ideas or feedback.
Rob Ellis, Blogger
Rob Ellis, then an owner of a thriving machine shop, was pleased when his eldest child, Dave, got a job at a bakery back in 1999; but on his second day on the job, the 18-year-old died in a horrific incident with an industrial mixer. Rob’s life changed forever, as did his career - he gave up being a small-business owner right after the tragedy and has toured North America full time since, speaking out about workplace safety and, in particular, how young workers can protect themselves. Now Rob extends his reach across the Internet with his
blog, Safety (R)evolution, at WorkSafely.

Cory Perquin, Assistant Editor and SEO Expert
Cory was weaned on workplace safety, growing up in a miner’s family in the North, where his father first unionized. (Dad is now based in Pittsburgh working with the United Steelworkers of America.) Cory, also a “man of the people,” draws upon his unique background to maximize exposure for WorkSafely as its Assistant Editor, SEO expert and link builder extraordinaire.

James Harris, Site Designer
Ever since he first clutched a crayon to draw an original comic book and tried his young hand at animation on his parents’ Mac SE, James has been imbued with a passion for design. He launched his first website, dedicated to a popular rock band, at 15 and has been site building and blogging ever since. James’ artistic sensibilities and Internet savvy are a striking addition to the WorkSafely team.
Contact James with photo, illustration or design suggestions.
Greg Winson, Staff Writer
Greg joined the WorkSafely team after six years as an editor for Canoe.ca, where he navigated the waters of what is effectively a daily online newspaper. He brings with him not only sharply honed Web-writing skills and a nose for news, but a personal passion for health and wellness that blends well with his role on the workplace safety beat.
Contact Greg to set up an interview or submit products for review.
Richard Vandentillaart, Video Producer
Richard has spent decades working as a videographer for big-city TV news stations and traveling the world filming documentaries and movies. He brings his incredible eye to WorkSafely by producing exceptional footage of our blogger, Rob Ellis, and other safety champions, as well as by shooting international conferences - such as Hanover Fair, the world’s largest industrial trade show in Germany - and safety demonstration and training videos.
Contact Richard with your video submissions or ideas.
Ryan Sherratt, Videographer
Filming and editing digital since the age of 9, Ryan entered and won a few local film festivals before he turned 21. A lifelong night owl, his interests - other than filming - include cars and travel. (Naturally he’s angled for a chance to drive the Autobahn during his trip to film Hannover Fair, the world’s largest industrial show!) Ryan’s work for WorkSafely has personal resonance: he once dodged a grinder router that broke off an air gun being handed to him; it was in a factory job that involved no training and which left him alone onsite a newbie.
Contact Ryan with any workplace safety video ideas of your own.
Rick Faulkner, Roving Reporter
Rick Faulkner has 30 years’ experience in the industrial world, having worked in engineering, purchasing, warehousing, inventory control, sales, shipping and management. He admits to bearing the scars of many a workplace accident, though he currently finds his online writing high on the safety scale!
